Reports: Chelsea begin talks with Italy boss over replacing Jose Mourinho

first_imgChelsea have held provisional talks with Italy coach Antonio Conte about becoming Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor next season.Conte’s contract with the national team expires after Euro 2016 and reports claim the 46-year-old is eager to take over at Stamford Bridge.According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea’s directors have begun contract negotiations with the Italian and a deal could be announced by the middle of March.Conte has been taking English lessons recently and also visited Chelsea’s Cobham training base in Autumn to inspect their facilities.Diego Simeone and Massimiliano Allegri are also being linked with the job, but Conte now appears to be the clear favourite to become Chelsea’s 11th manager in 12 years.
